The US Bureau of Labor Statistics said on Friday job growth from early 2025
through early this year may be slightly weaker than previously reported. For the
12 months to March, total payroll additions may be about 79,000 fewer than
earlier estimates. Private‑sector payrolls may be roughly 178,000 lower, with
retail and wholesale trade showing the largest downward revisions. Healthcare,
private education and professional & business services are also revised down.
Transportation & warehousing and the information sector — the latter often seen
as most exposed to AI — show increases versus prior reports. Federal, state and
local government payrolls rose by about 99,000.
