The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority said on the afternoon of Aug. 29 local
time that Niamey’s Diori Hamani International Airport had fully resumed normal
flight operations. In the early hours of Aug. 29, multiple locations in Niamey
reported intensive gunfire and explosions, including around the airport and the
presidential palace. The Nigerian Defense Ministry said late on Aug. 29 that
soldiers from Military Base No. 101 had attempted a mutiny earlier that day; the
situation has since been brought under control.
