A press briefing in Gyirong town on Aug. 30 said the Aug. 26 mudslide on the Nepal side caused heavy casualties and missing persons at Gyirong port in Gyirong County, Shigatse, Tibet. Authorities identified a landslide dam above the border's core area as the primary risk to response operations; the dam has begun to overflow and discharge water, the situation is currently stable, and an overall breach is considered unlikely.
