Hong Kong Observatory issued a tropical cyclone warning and has hoisted the No.1
standby signal, effective now. The remnants of Typhoon Shadell have
re-strengthened into a tropical depression off Hainan’s southeast coast and are
within about 800 km of Hong Kong. Combined effects of Shadell’s remnants and the
northeast monsoons are bringing generally northern winds across Hong Kong.
Terrain shielding makes widespread strong winds unlikely tonight and tomorrow
morning. The No.1 signal will remain in force at least until 1200 HKT on Sept.
