On Aug 31 US Central Command said an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps report
that a supertanker struck a mine, caught fire and stopped while transiting the
southern route of the Strait of Hormuz was false, stating no vessels struck
mines in the Strait. Iranian media on Aug 31, citing the IRGC, reported the
tanker incident and said the vessel was "attempting to illegally transit the
southern route."
