Chinese President Xi met Russian President Putin in Bishkek during the 2026
Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit. Putin said Russia is willing to
maintain high-level contacts with China and deepen cooperation in trade, energy,
industry, transport and technology, while tightening people-to-people exchanges.
He called for closer Russia–China coordination within the SCO and in
multilateral forums including the UN, BRICS and G20, and said Russia supports
China’s convening of an informal APEC leaders’ meeting.
