China's National Essential Medicines List (2026 edition) takes effect today,
Sept. 1. Issued by the National Health Commission, the National Administration
of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the National Disease Control Bureau, the
list—used as the basis for drug allocation and use in medical institutions—adds
68 chemical drugs and biologics. The update targets high‑incidence chronic and
common diseases and broadens covered disease categories, with a specific
emphasis on increasing the range of pediatric‑appropriate medicines.
