According to Newsweek, the U.S. State Department updated its travel warning for Israel on August 26, stating that family members of U.S. government employees are currently permitted to travel to Israel. However, the State Department stated that due to regional instability, some areas of Israel face a higher risk. The travel warning states that U.S. government employees working in Israel are prohibited from traveling to the following areas: the area north of Highway 85 to the southern section of Highway 90 and then to Highway 87; areas within 7 miles (approximately 11.3 kilometers) of the Gaza Strip; and areas within 1.5 miles (approximately 2.4 kilometers) of the Israel-Egypt border, except for areas near the Taba border crossing. U.S. government personnel must obtain approval from the U.S. Embassy's Security Office to travel to these areas on official business.
