Axios reports U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll announced his resignation on
Monday, citing two primary reasons: he believes his Army modernization reforms
were being blocked, and the turmoil triggered by Defense Secretary Pete
Hegseth’s dismissal of multiple senior generals. Driscoll recently met with
Trump and expressed concern about the service; the Army currently lacks
Senate-confirmed leaders at both the civilian and uniformed levels. Once viewed
as a rising figure in the Trump administration, Driscoll had a tense
relationship with Hegseth; some U.S. officials say Hegseth distrusted him in
part because of Driscoll’s close ties to Vice President Vance, with whom he
attended Yale Law School.
