US Treasury Secretary Bessent told a G20 fireside that the US 3-3-3 energy plan targets oil-equivalent supply and that US daily oil production has risen 1.6–2.2 mln bpd since Trump took office. He said the Strait of Hormuz will achieve “bypass passage” within two years and become “worthless waters” as oil moves to land pipelines. On Iran, Bessent said 85–90% of Iranian facilities could be rebuilt and Iran may hold the world’s third-largest energy resources. He said the US may announce banking sanctions this week and next, with strong backing from the EU, ECB, UK, UAE and Bahrain, and that Washington will target aviation leasing firms linked to Iran.
