The US Treasury Department said US Treasury Secretary Bessent met Bank of Japan
governor UEDA on Aug. 30 in Asheville during the G20 finance ministers and
central bank governors meeting. Bessent welcomed UEDA’s participation and urged
tighter US‑Japan coordination on shared macro policy priorities. She said sound
design and communication of monetary policy are critical to anchoring inflation
expectations and limiting excessive FX volatility. Bessent voiced strong support
for Japan’s decisive market and monetary measures to address a severely
undervalued yen, noting yen weakness has amplified domestic inflationary
pressures.
