On Sept. 1, 2026 in Beijing, Xiong Jijun, vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, met with Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Director‑General Sabrina Dallafior to discuss destruction of legacy chemical weapons, reform of industrial verification mechanisms, application of emerging technologies including AI in compliance, and international implementation cooperation. Xiong said China welcomes Dallafior’s stated priorities—upholding the global prohibition regime, strengthening compliance measures, closer engagement with states parties and the chemical industry—and pledged to deepen cooperation with the OPCW and states parties, advance industrial verification reform, strengthen governance of AI and other emerging technologies, and contribute to efforts for a world free of chemicals weapons.
