U.S. media report Iran has deployed a new-generation ballistic missile, Kheibar
Shekan (literally 'castle breaker'), with roughly 900 miles (≈1,450 km) range,
satellite guidance, a maneuverable terminal warhead and high precision. Military
experts and former U.S. military and intelligence officials and weapons analysts
say its terminal-phase trajectory changes and mobile, solid-fuel TEL
launches—hard to detect pre-launch—have weakened the resilience of U.S. bases in
the Persian Gulf; Iran says the missile was used extensively during a six-month
conflict against U.S. forces, including strikes on the U.S. naval base in
Bahrain and other U.S. bases.
