US diesel prices rose to their highest level since April, highlighting added
inflationary pressure from ongoing conflicts. AAA data showed the national
average retail diesel price climbed on Tuesday to $5.688/gal, marginally below
April’s peak, which had been the highest since mid-2022. This year’s Middle East
fighting and the Russia‑Ukraine war have pushed diesel higher. Russia, a major
diesel exporter, has cut shipments after repeated refinery attacks. Earlier this
week Trump pressed US refiners in a closed‑door meeting to raise domestic diesel
and gasoline output. In an Aug. 28 note, Goldman Sachs analysts said "diesel
remains at the core of the rally" as energy prices rise.
