Iran’s foreign ministry said on Sept. 2 it strongly condemned US military
action, accusing US forces of striking multiple non-military sites and civilians
infrastructure — including ports and communications facilities — across
Khuzestan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Hormozgan and Kerman provinces, causing
casualties and property damage. The ministry said an attack in Sirik county,
Hormozgan, on a wedding left more than 70 people dead or wounded, mostly women
and children. It called the strikes of international law and said
Iran’s armed forces, citing the UN Charter right of self-defense, had carried
out defensive and deterrent strikes on US military bases they identified as
launch and logistics hubs for the attacks. Iran urged regional states to prevent
US use of their territory and airspace for strikes on Iran and asked the UN
Security Council and secretary-general to act to prevent further escalation.
