On Sept 2, U.S. District Judge Deborah Boardman in Maryland issued a preliminary
injunction preventing the Trump administration from enforcing a new executive
order that sought to deny automatic U.S. citizenship to newborns whose parents
are neither U.S. citizens nor lawful permanent residents. Trump signed the order
after returning to the White House in January 2025. The U.S. Supreme Court on
June 30 had ruled to overturn the order.
