Yang Xuedong, director of the Sports Economy Department at China's General
Administration of Sport, said at a Sept. 3 press briefing the regulator will
focus on technology and innovation to create new industry growth points.
Measures include pushing sporting-goods manufacturers to lift R&D and tech
innovation, accelerating deployment of big data and AI in the sports sector, and
cultivating online livestreaming, online training, virtual sports and smart
operations. The stated aim is to develop new digital sports consumption models
and shift sports services from standardized toward personalized offerings to
meet consumer demand.
