China has registered the country’s first domestically approved special
medical‑purpose amino‑acid component formula food for rare‑disease patients: a
product for phenylketonuria (PKU) patients aged 1 and older. The formula
provides adequate protein as free amino acids; fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and
minerals are expected to be supplemented via low‑protein regular diets,
expanding dietary options and filling a domestic gap for PKU patient nutrition.
