US Treasury Secretary Bessent said the EU has formally joined Washington’s
economic pressure campaign on Iran. Bessent wrote Washington "appreciates its
strong and timely stance" and said "the United States and its allies stand
together to ensure the Iranian regime cannot use the global financial system to
fund its nuclear ambitions, weapons programs and terrorist proxies." He added:
"The world is sending a clear message to the Iranian regime: we will spare no
effort until cutting off all its remaining financial lifelines." The EU said
late last month it would work "closely with the US, other G7 members and
international partners to continue to pressure Iran" while seeking de‑escalation
and preserving regional stability.
