daily pace implied by the original plan. Sources say the slow ramp reflects
Apple’s stringent quality requirements and an added trial production run before
the August start of mass production. Apple’s reported target for the model this
year is 8–10 million units; sources warn that without a faster ramp final output
may fall short of that target and take longer than expected to meet consumer
demand. Industry executives say meeting the original target would have required
daily production in the tens of thousands.
