Thailand has suspended 49 data center projects after rising public concern over
the facilities’ high power consumption and community impact. The National
Economic and Social Development Council said the pause is to allow time to draft
new industry regulations, expected within a month. The finance minister said the
decision is not a ban on investment, calling data centers critical to Thailand’s
competitiveness while stressing the need for clear, unified standards to ensure
sustainable development. The government will establish a unified regulatory
mechanism to cover both operating and under-construction data centers.
