Visiting Ontario manufacturing on Sept. 3, Prime Minister Carney said that after
bilateral trade talks recently collapsed, U.S. tariffs on Canada were a
"misjudgment" and that Canada had made the right decision. He said Canada has
the resources to build an ideal country, will protect cultural industries and
preserve sovereign authority to negotiate trade deals. Carney added Canada is
willing to resume negotiations when the U.S. is ready, but any agreement must be
stable and credible.
