RSM economist Tu Nguyen said Canada's average hourly earnings slowed to 2% YoY
in August from above 3% in prior years, a "sudden drop" she says reflects
greater corporate caution and a rebalancing labor market. Headline inflation is
around 3%, driven by gasoline; Nguyen said the wage slowdown should help
restrain inflation by stabilizing firms' costs and reducing pressure to pass
higher costs onto consumers.
