Japan's Defense Ministry plans AI-equipped satellites to analyze
space-surveillance data and accelerate decision-making to strengthen use of
long-range missiles for counterstrikes. It will partner with Japanese firms to
build test satellites and perform ground validation in fiscal 2027–29, with
launches to test functionality planned for fiscal 2030 or later. The AI systems
are expected to be developed domestically.
