On Sept. 5 a mudflow and landslide struck Shixia group, Mingkeng Village,
Gaoping Town, Suichuan County, Jiangxi. The National Disaster Reduction and
Relief Commission and the Ministry of Emergency Management initiated level-4
national emergency responses for natural disasters and geological disasters and
dispatched a working group to oversee rescue. The ministry ordered all-out
search-and-rescue, verification of casualties and missing persons, nearby
deployment of communications support and engineering rescue teams, and
stepped-up hydrological and geological monitoring and early warning to prevent
secondary disasters. The national production-safety rescue team’s emergency
survey unit, carrying slope radar and other equipment, was sent to assist; local
fire services deployed 41 vehicles and 224 personnel and communications and
reconnaissance drones were airborne.
