On the evening of the 5th, President Putin met U.S. envoys at the Kremlin,
outlined details of a three-day ceasefire and said Russia will seek to ensure
the safety of U.S.-Ukraine negotiations and mediation personnel. Putin said
Russian intelligence and diplomatic channels received a request to stop strikes
on Kyiv and he ordered an immediate halt to airstrikes on the Ukrainian capital
from midnight. He added Ukraine has sharply reduced attacks on Russian
territory, including Moscow, by roughly an order of magnitude. Putin said
Ukraine proposed a broader three-day ceasefire, which Russia did not accept.
