Vessel-tracking shows six Qatar-linked empty LNG carriers are in the Gulf of
Oman or inbound to the Persian Gulf; Kpler reports a seventh recently transited
the Strait of Hormuz and is now in the Persian Gulf en route to Qatar. Qatar
supplied about one-fifth of global LNG and has all but halted exports since a
tanker was attacked in late July. The ship movements contrast with a marked
rebound in Qatari oil exports over the past month. Movements suggest Doha may be
repositioning tonnage to resume LNG exports via the Strait of Hormuz despite
renewed U.S.-Iran tensions and Tehran’s plan to designate an exclusion zone
outside the strait. QatarEnergy did not respond to requests for comment.
