RIO TINTO said it has agreed to acquire the Aurukun bauxite project in northeast Australia from Glencore and Mitsubishi Development. The price was not disclosed and the transaction is subject to approvals from the Queensland government and other Australian regulators. Aurukun holds a mineral development license but its mining lease has not yet been approved. The project is adjacent to RIO TINTO’s West Cape York bauxite operations.
