Iran raised the retail price for gasoline above the rationed 110‑liter
allowance, doubling the cost for excess fuel to 100,000 rials per liter from
50,000; the price for the first 110 liters remains unchanged. Officials framed
the move as part of months-long deliberations to curb subsidy costs amid falling
government revenue and sustained economic pressure from US sanctions and a US
naval blockade of Iranian ports. Tehran noted domestic pump prices remain among
the world’s lowest. Parliament speaker Ghalibaf said Iran’s current gasoline
output can meet demand if consumption is rational, urged conservation and said
industry—rather than households—bears part of the responsibility for high
consumption.
