According to SpaceX's Q2 earnings call, the company conveyed the idea that it can rely more on its own infrastructure, including satellite capacity, femtocells (ultra-small cellular base stations) deployed on Starlink broadband terminals, and its own ground stations, potentially reducing its reliance on traditional macro base stations and fiber optic backhaul, attempting to change the way traditional mobile networks are built. However, JPMorgan Chase predicts that it still cannot completely bypass large communication towers and more low-frequency spectrum. The bank expects SpaceX to begin building its independent terrestrial network in the US starting in 2028, requiring approximately 75,000 large communication towers in the long term, and significant competitive pressure on the three major carriers is not expected to emerge rapidly in the next few years.
