The Israel Geological Survey said on the 8th it has laid a 55 km fiber-optic
cable on the Dead Sea floor dedicated to earthquake monitoring. The cable runs
in a zigzag route across the northern basin. The project uses distributed
acoustic sensing (DAS) to detect micro-vibrations and displacements along the
fiber, effectively turning the line into a large-scale seismic sensor network.
