Japanese automaker Honda announced on Wednesday an investment in US startup Niron Magnetics, which is advancing the commercialization of rare-earth-free permanent magnets. Both companies declined to disclose the investment amount or the specific use of the funds. Niron Magnetics stated that this investment is not part of its funding round. The Minneapolis-based startup uses iron and nitrogen instead of rare-earth elements to create its permanent magnets.
