Secretary of State Rubio told MSNBC he currently has "no plans" to run for president in 2028 but did not rule out a future bid, saying he is "100% focused" on his current job. Rubio, who is also serving as acting national security adviser to President Trump, has privately told associates the same and said he enjoys the secretary of state role and is keeping his options open. As Republicans seek post‑Trump leadership, Rubio and Vice President Vance are being viewed as potential contenders.
