Trump defended the U.S.-Iran war as necessary to prevent Iran from acquiring
nuclear weapons, saying critics tell him they wish he had not gone to war
because gasoline prices rose. He said he replied, "Could Iran have nuclear
weapons?" and that the answer is always "Absolutely not," adding "So I was
right... I won." Other Republican politicians and candidates largely did not
mention the conflict in speeches on the conference's opening day.
