Qatar is negotiating long-term LNG purchases from U.S. suppliers as the war with Iran has sharply reduced its ability to meet customer demand, people familiar with the matter said. State-owned QatarEnergy is targeting volumes from existing and under-construction U.S. export projects. The talks are the first indication since the conflict began that Qatar is seeking supply outside the Middle East. Qatar had supplied roughly 20% of global LNG, but shipments have largely stalled as the risks of transiting the Strait of Hormuz have surged.
