Nikkei reports Nissan will close one plant and reallocate output across
remaining factories to keep Japanese production capacity at about 1.0 mln
vehicles. Van production from two Fukuoka plants will be shifted to the Tochigi
plant over the next 2–3 years. Nissan’s Oppama plant in Kanagawa is scheduled to
cease operations at the end of fiscal 2027. The move is part of a global plan to
close and restructure seven assembly plants. After Oppama shuts, Nissan’s direct
Japan capacity will drop to roughly 800k; including vehicles produced for Nissan
by Mitsubishi under contract, domestic capacity will remain near 1.0 mln.
