According to the Iranian news agency IRNA, citing Yemeni news portals, hours after the Houthi rebels seized control of the strategic Red Sea city and port of Muha, the Houthi-backed Government of Change and Construction announced in a statement that the port had resumed operations and would offer preferential policies to container ships and cargo at several ports along the Red Sea coast, including Muha, in the coming days. The statement said these preferential policies include reductions of up to 50% in vessel and container fees, taxes, customs duties, and other charges. This move aims to encourage shipping agents to import through seaports to avoid incurring high and illegal fees in areas described as "occupied territories," referring to the region in southern Yemen controlled by Saudi-backed armed groups. The statement called on merchants, traders, and shipping companies to take advantage of these preferential policies.
