Bank of Japan (BOJ) data showed Japan’s corporate goods price index rose 7.6% YoY in August, slightly below July’s revised 7.7% but above economists’ median 7.4% forecast; MoM -0.2% versus July’s revised +0.4%. Key drivers were oil and coal products, chemicals, information and communications equipment and non-ferrous metals. The print suggests firms remain under pressure to pass higher input costs—driven by energy, transport, packaging and rising wages—on to customers. The data supports market pricing for a 25bp BOJ hike to around 1.25% at the Sept. 18 meeting.
