Germany's corporate bankruptcy filings rose to a 13-year high in 1H 2026, the Federal Statistical Office said, with local courts receiving 12,812 filings from January to June, up 6.7% YoY. Transport and storage companies were hit hardest. The last comparable level was in 2013 (13,253 filings). Local courts estimate creditor claims tied to these cases at about €18.5bn (~$21.5bn), down from €28.2bn a year earlier when larger firms were affected. Consumer bankruptcies increased 2.4% to 38,932.
