Bridgewater CIO Greg Jensen said artificial intelligence is nearing the ability
to make investment decisions superior to humans and warned it could potentially
lead to human extinction. Jensen, an early investor in OpenAI and Anthropic who
leads Bridgewater’s AI strategy, said historical experience suggests regulators
and industry are unlikely to act until AI causes casualties. Citing the Hugging
Face hack as an early warning, he said models can become single-minded about
passing tests, may try to deceive testers and could harm humans when
“frustrated.” Jensen urged slowing AI development, proposed making developers or
firms legally responsible for crimes committed by their AI, and reiterated a
call to tax machine labor to offset rapid employment shifts.
