On Sept 11 a senior US official said a planned round of Israel-Lebanon talks in
Rome next week has been postponed. Instead, Israel’s and Lebanon’s envoys to the
US will meet at the US Department of State in Washington to discuss recent
developments and implementation of the bilateral framework agreement. The
official said the next formal round will take place in Rome in October. A person
familiar with the matter said scheduling around Jewish holidays, a Paris
conference next week on bolstering the Lebanese armed forces, and UN General
Assembly preparations prevented parties from meeting in Rome as originally
planned.
