Aaron Kennedy, a maritime security analyst at global consulting firm Control Risks, stated that the expansion of Houthi-controlled territory does not necessarily mean an increase in attacks on merchant ships. "The Houthis' recent advances have solidified their already strong position in the Red Sea, making it easier for them to attack shipping, but this doesn't necessarily mean that maritime attacks will escalate now." Kennedy predicts that while there have been suggestions to completely close the Bab el-Mandeb Bridge, this is unlikely. "While the Houthis have occupied this area near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, it doesn't mean they will blockade the strait. The likelihood of this is still extremely low. But it does enhance their operational capabilities because it brings their weapons and equipment closer to Red Sea shipping lanes."
