Mohammed Bashah, founder and chief analyst at Basha Report Risk Advisory, stated that political infighting and military divisions within Yemen's internationally recognized government are hindering the fight against the Houthis. It is impossible to defeat the Houthis with divided command and control and eight armies vying for influence. The biggest factor that has strengthened the Houthis and enabled them to continue their advance is internal strife. They blame and shift responsibility to each other. Bashah stated that tensions within the anti-Houthi coalition have persisted for decades, from the 1986 Southern War to the 2011 Arab Spring, and all the wars in between.

Muhammad Basha, founder and analyst at independent risk consultancy Basha Report, said Saudi Arabia faces growing pressure to mount larger operations against Houthi forces, but any campaign would rely heavily on ground troops. He noted the Saudi-led coalition has not formally acknowledged air strikes but it is certain Saudi is providing air support. Air power alone will not be decisive, he said: aircraft and firepower can suppress or slow Houthi advances, but decisive effect comes from ground forces. Basha expects the US will not directly join combat — the US is not fighting the Houthis and the Houthis are not fighting the US — though Washington could back Saudi action with intelligence, ISR, aerial refueling, logistics and military advice. He warned the Houthis will try to seize the whole country and predicted neither side will collapse quickly, making a protracted conflict similar to Sudan more likely, with both parties ultimately forced into negotiations.

According to Iran's Mehr News Agency, a source in the transportation department of the Houthi-controlled Sana'a government in Yemen stated that 73 ships passed through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait in the past two days. He added that 36 ships passed through this important waterway on September 10th and 37 ships on September 11th. The source pointed out that Yemen's ban on ships associated with Saudi Arabia is unrelated to other vessels navigating the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. He stated that 73 ships passed through the strait in 48 hours, a number roughly equivalent to the number of ships passing through before the ban was implemented. He said these figures refute claims that ships face risks in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, proving such claims to be "lies." Previously, Hazam al-Assad, a member of the political office of the Ansar al-Allah Movement (Houthi rebels), also stated that the group's operations on Yemen's west coast are internal affairs and unrelated to international shipping.
