At a results briefing Guoguang Co. said El Nifio has driven localized extreme
weather—heavy rains and floods in some regions and high temperatures and drought
in others. Some of the company’s plant growth regulators offer stress
resistance, root promotion and anti-lodging effects, which can boost regional
demand (e.g. growth control/anti-lodging products in wet, windy areas;
heat/drought-resilience products in dry areas). However, demand also depends on
planting area, crop mix, climate, farmgate prices and farmer usage habits, so
climate effects are regional. The company has not found El Nifio to have a
material impact on overall operating performance to date.
