An external expert panel on the 14th published a 250-plus page report finding that of 225 reviewed items at Chubu Electric Power Co.'s Hamaoka nuclear plant, at least 208 involved falsification, concealment or other improper conduct. The report said managerial criticism of review delays may have prompted plant officials to manipulate data. Chubu Electric's president and chairman have indicated they will resign. The company admitted on Aug. 27 that demolition work reports for Hamaoka units 1 and 2 in FY2024 were altered and contained values inconsistent with actual conditions, and in January acknowledged it had manipulated key seismic assumptions to obtain restart approval for units 3 and 4 and provided false information to the Nuclear Regulation Authority.
