Japan's Nikkei 225 closed at 63,492.99, down 518.35 pts (-0.81%) from last Friday, briefly dipping below the 63,000 level for the first time since Aug. 4. Reports that OpenAI will not list this year and concerns about slowing AI development pushed AI and semiconductor stocks broadly lower, while elevated US crude futures added selling pressure. After an early gap down, short-term fund buying of Nikkei 225 futures provided support, quickly arresting the slide and narrowing losses.
