US-headquartered Boston Dynamics, Hyundai Motor Group’s humanoid robotics unit,
is unlikely to pursue an IPO next year because its flagship Atlas robot has not
been mass-deployed and the unit remains unprofitable, a parent-company executive
said. The comments indicate a public listing could still be years away despite
earlier investor enthusiasm that helped lift Hyundai shares. Analysts say an IPO
is unlikely while humanoid robots remain too scarce for broad factory
deployment. Hyundai has said it aims to build a factory capable of producing 30k
robots a year by 2028 and to begin deploying humanoid robots at its US Georgia
plant in 2028, with wider rollout across its manufacturing network thereafter;
some analysts call those targets ambitious.
