An ammonia leak at an industrial zone in Aqaba, Jordan injured on Monday 11
people and prompted evacuation of the southern port area. Authorities said the
release, a small escape of ammonia during maintenance on aging pump/pressure
equipment, has been contained and injuries are minor to moderate. The site is
away from residential areas; the Aqaba Economic Zone Authority said workers may
only return after inspections and remedial measures confirm no remaining risk.
