Alphabet unit Waymo (GOOG.O) said it will start paid robotaxi service in Las Vegas
Vegas on Monday, marking its 15th U.S. city. The service will roll out in
phases, with an initial deployment of dozens of vehicles and plans to scale to
hundreds. Las Vegas robotaxis initially will not operate on highways; airport
pickups and highway service will be added in later phases. Operations will be
managed by Moove, which also runs Waymo fleets in Phoenix and Miami. Waymo
currently operates more than 4,000 robotaxis in the U.S. and delivers over
500,000 paid rides a week; it is targeting 20 cities and about 1 million paid
weekly rides globally this year and is preparing tests in London and Tokyo.
