California Governor Gavin Newsom said he will not run for president if former
vice president Kamala Harris enters the 2028 race, thereby removing the prospect
of a California primary showdown between the state's two best-known Democrats.
Newsom, who is term-limited and has publicly weighed a presidential bid while
raising his national profile with appearances in swing states including North
Carolina, said: "I don't know if she will run, we'll wait and see. But if she
runs, I will not.”
